He heals the brokenhearted.
Psalm 147:3
It’s 4:30 am and pouring rain. I can’t sleep. So off to the coffee pot I go. I’m not sure what I’d do without my french press friend who helps me each morning to wake my mind. But as my mind wakes, I can’t help but think about those in the world who’ve lost their lives to an invisible and deadly attack against their immune system and lungs. Several months ago, all was well.
People were singing, shopping, meeting, and living their lives as they wanted. Invincible. Unmovable. Self-sustainable. That’s who we were. But now things are different. We’ve gone from losing jobs to losing people. How much is a life worth? We are pondering this question over the next couple of weeks. I fear that we will see much more death than we’ve ever seen as a country.
But how do you react to numbers? We see the rising numbers of cases and deaths. It’s like a stock ticker that continues to run endlessly. But do the numbers affect your heart or is it a math experiment to determine percentages of death and pain. Have we become immune to the broken heart we should feel because of the pure numbers we see each day?
As of this morning, the death toll is now 18,944 people. Every death is a soul. Do you wonder about the salvation of those who are quickly being placed on ventilators and slipping into eternity? This concern should cause your heart to hurt. This distress should cause your heart to break. Where will each one spend eternity?
We shouldn’t just fear for our selves and the possibility of being exposed to the COVID-19 virus, but we should also be vigilant to do what we can to help those who may not be able to live through this violent viral infection. We should stay home and not expose those who are more susceptible to the virus.
The broken hearted return to God
This message is for us this morning. Day after day, we are inundated with more contradicting and challenging news. Italy loses more and more people every day. New York becomes the hot spot of the United States. It won’t be long before more and more die. This death should cause us to be brokenhearted. The longer this virus runs through the United States, the more likely we are to know someone who it affects.
Those who are brokenhearted understand that they can find help in the Lord. The Lord is the one who provides healing. But to receive that healing, we need to repent and turn towards God for His healing. Who is healing your heart during this crisis? Simply recognizing God as the one who does this is a significant step in the refreshing He wants to give you.
God heals the broken hearted
God makes your heart healthy again. God completes His surgery on your heart by removing the pain, sorrow, disappointment, difficulty, crisis, and suffering that heavily weighs on your heart.
If you are destroyed in your spirit today because of job layoffs, furloughs, and uncertainty, please know that God never lost control. He is, and will always be, in control. Perhaps God is using the events in this time in our history to bring us to Himself for healing. Will you rest in His care today?
A prayer…
Lord, I am so tired of the endless news cycle of pain and death. My heart hurts when I see children in pain and others fighting for their very lives. I need you to heal my broken heart. Will you heal me today? I repent of relying on my ability and trying to solve my brokenness on my own. I turn my broken heart over to You and ask you to heal me.
