To them, God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. ~ Colossians 1:27

Hope is an exciting word. Some of us are hoping our car will start this morning so we can get to work. Many are hoping for good results from medical tests. Others are hoping for a new job. I know some are hoping to win the lottery. And others just want this pandemic to go away and affect none others.

Hope is something that keeps people going. It wakes them in the morning and keeps them going through the day. Hope is fuel to those who desperately need something good to happen in their lives.

Scripture teaches us that our hope is always pointing us to Christ and the hope He provides us is hope for eternal life. As a Christ-follower, we should always view life in terms of our future eternity.

Our Hope is in Christ

Where do you place your trust? Do you place your trust in doctors, dentists, and auto mechanics? How often do you put your trust in the 12 alarms you set on your phone to wake you in the morning? I set only two and the mostly work. I find there are times when I press snooze twice and then those alarms only become annoying.

“Christ in you” is a very interesting phase in Paul’s message to the Colossian church. Christ lives in everyone who trusts Him. Do you trust Him? Is it that simple? I believe it is. If we repent of our sins (turns from sin and towards Christ) and place our trust in what Christ did on the cross (died to satisfy God’s wrath against our sin), God will save us from spending eternity in hell, separated from Him. When this happens, Jesus Christ lives in us.

God reveals the mystery to everyone, and because of this, we have access to God through Jesus. Scripture solves this mystery. It is Christ.

Our Hope is Eternal

When thinking about life, we realize that it is short. And because it is short, we must have a perspective that recognizes there is something more than living with the pain and disappointment on earth. There must be more than hoping our cars will start and that we have a good day at work with no drama.

The good news is that because Christ is in you, He is our hope of glory. That is our perspective. It should be eternal. While life is short, eternity is forever. If you’ve placed your faith and trust in Christ, your hope is different than others who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Why does this matter? It matters because we don’t have to worry about our future.
We have hope that is secure in the promise of God in Scripture.

I heard a song this morning that God used to speak to me. I can’t explain it, but sometimes God does that in my life. I want to share it with you and hope you enjoy it.

A Prayer…

Jesus, I know things are so uncertain right now in my life and I need you. I have worries and concerns that I need you to take away for me. I know you live in me and because of that I have great hope. Will you please calm my spirit and relieve any worries I have.
