Do you ever get annoyed with people who live in Neverland? They never stop talking? I mean those who keep you from getting any words in a conversation because they feel like their words and thoughts are more important than yours. How about those who never stop complaining? They say things like, “I don’t like this,” “My job is horrible,” “I hate my life,” “My spouse is just getting on my nerves.” Sometimes their complaining rubs off on us and we begin to take on that characteristic. How about people who never stop fighting? Sometimes it rears its ugliness through sibling rivalry. If you have children, you know what I’m talking about. Usually, they fight for the attention of their parents, or over simple selfishness. Fight, fight, and fight. How about people who just never stop? They always go and go until physical exhaustion makes them stop. They eventually hit a wall and have to stop. These people never have time for things that really matter in life. They are so concerned about making the money or advancing in their jobs that they miss some unique and amazing times with God. They just don’t have time for God. They just never stop!
You know, the Apostle Paul spoke about never stopping. But, I’m sure he wasn’t thinking about talking, complaining, fighting, or working. Ok, if you’re a “never stop talking” person, it’s time to stop talking and listen to what Paul said. He said, “Never Stop Praying” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That’s right. Never stop praying. There are many things in our lives that we should stop doing, but praying is not on that list. In fact, we should always be in a state of prayer. Now, I’m not talking about riding down the road at 70 mph, eyes closed tightly, head moving back and forth to the beat of the worship music drowning out the noise, hands lifted through the sunroof, steering your car with your knees, and crying out to God. That might be a little dangerous. But what I am talking about is continual fellowship with God.
As we consider Paul’s words to never stop praying, it is most important to realize that prayer never changes the heart of God or His plans. However, prayer does change our own hearts and plans. You see, when we never stop praying, we stay close to the heart of God and understand more fully His purposes for us. I believe the reason so many people get trapped in “Neverland” is because they don’t fully see and understand God’s heart and purpose for their lives. Are you one of those talkers, complainers, fighters, and other negative action oriented people, or are you one who never stops praying? Are you looking for change in your life? Never stop praying! Just something to think about.
