Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust.
Psalm 40:4

I drove down to Florida to see my son not too long ago. I took my truck, which I love. I started the truck and took off. Hit the interstate and cruised all the way to I-4 and then navigated through the mess of construction to finally get to my hotel. It was a long ride, and I was thankful to get to a place where I could finally rest. Here’s the moral of the story. I trusted my truck to get me through the grueling 7-hour trek with only one stop for coffee. I trusted it, and it did not fail. I used to have another truck that I trusted around town. It was my “around the town” truck. There is no way I would have taken that truck. But the newer one…I had complete trust in it.

Who do you trust?

I think this is a crucial question. I sometimes wonder if we count on ourselves more than we trust the One who created us. We work hard in school and attain degrees that show we can jump through enough hoops to gain the degree. We land that job and work hard to move up in the company. Our skill set seems to be great, and people notice how hard we work. We finally get that job promotion and find great satisfaction in our abilities. This hard work encourages us to put more trust in ourselves.

But is that the best place to put our trust? While we may have a great set of knowledge, skills, and abilities, we forget Who made it all possible. God gives us all we have and makes possible all we achieve. Anything we have is because the Lord has allowed us to have it. So where do you place your faith? All I know is this; I fail too much to place any trust in my abilities.

Trust in the Lord

What does it mean to trust in the Lord? Psalm 40:4 says, “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust. When there is a health crisis, what do we do? We wring our hands and think the worst. But we don’t think about the Lord. When we have a financial emergency, we think about nothing but the worst. When things are out of control in our most close relationships, we try all kinds of things to resolve the conflict but fail to reach out to the Lord.

My question is always this: why would we not trust the Lord? I believe the answer is relatively simple. Trust the Lord. When you hurt, trust the Lord. When you’re in despair, trust the Lord. When you feel that all is lost, trust the Lord. With a single breath, He created the heavens and the earth. He created us, loves us, cares for us, protects us, teaches us, helps us, consoles us, and walks alongside us in our best and worst times.

Those who fail to trust in the Lord will not reap those amazing benefits. Trust Him and watch and see how He provides for you today. He loves you with a love that does not fail.

A prayer…

Lord, You know how difficult it is for me to release control of my life. I struggle in many areas and try to fix them myself. But it just isn’t working. I do need you and ask you to help me with my struggles and the decisions I need to make. When I don’t see the answers I will trust in You. I will shout out Your faithfulness to me so that all will know that you are my Lord and strength and help.
